Let’s cut through the BS, shall we? Boudoir photography gets a bad rap sometimes.

People hear “boudoir,” and suddenly, their minds are filled with misconceptions: “It’s only for models!” “You have to wear barely-there lingerie!” “You have to know how to pose!”

Spoiler alert: None of that is true.

As a Dallas boudoir photographer, I’ve heard it all. So, let’s grab a cup of coffee (or a mimosa) and dive into the biggest myths about boudoir photography—and why they’re absolute nonsense.

Dallas Boudoir Photographer, Plus Size Babes

Myth #1: You Have to Be a Certain Size or Shape

Oh, honey, let me stop you right there. Boudoir photography is NOT reserved for supermodels or people with six-pack abs. This is for everyone—every body, every size, every age.

Think about it: When was the last time you celebrated you? Boudoir is about embracing who you are right now. Stretch marks, curves, scars, laugh lines—all of it. Those things make you uniquely you, and that’s what I’m here to capture.

And if that voice in your head says, “I’ll book a session when I lose 10 pounds,” tell it to take a seat. You’re perfect right now.

Myth #2: You Have to Wear Lingerie

This one always makes me laugh. Sure, lingerie is great (hello, lace and satin!), but it’s not a requirement. If lingerie isn’t your vibe, no problem! You can rock a cozy sweater, a flowing dress, a leather jacket, or even your favorite jeans.

You could show up in a freaking superhero cape if that makes you feel powerful. The point is to wear what makes you feel like you.

And yes, birthday suits are 100% an option, too.

Myth #3: You Need to Know How to Pose

Ha! As if anyone wakes up knowing how to pose like a Vogue cover model. Spoiler: That’s my job.

I’ll guide you every step of the way, from where to put your hands to how to arch your back just enough to feel sexy without feeling like you’re in a yoga class.

Seriously, don’t overthink this. All you have to do is show up—I’ve got the rest.

Myth #4: Boudoir Is Just About Looking Sexy

Boudoir isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling amazing.

Sure, the photos are stunning, but the real magic happens in how you see yourself during the session. It’s empowering, freeing, and sometimes even a little emotional. Clients often leave saying, “I didn’t know I could feel this confident.”

Boudoir is about celebrating who you are, owning your story, and reclaiming your power. The sexy photos? Just a bonus.

Myth #5: It’s All Super Serious

Let me tell you something: Boudoir sessions with me are anything but stiff and serious.

We’ll laugh, we’ll joke, and you might hear me say something ridiculous like, “Pop that booty like Beyoncé!” Boudoir should be fun and uplifting. If you’re not smiling by the end, I’m doing it wrong.

Myth #6: Boudoir Is Only for Special Occasions

Sure, a boudoir session makes a great wedding gift, anniversary surprise, or “just because” treat. But do you really need an occasion to celebrate yourself?

Let me answer that for you: NOPE.

Book a boudoir session because you feel like it. Because you deserve to see yourself in a new light. Because you’re worth it.

Myth #7: It’s Out of Your Comfort Zone

Okay, I’ll admit—stepping in front of the camera can feel intimidating at first. But here’s the thing: It’s only scary until you try it.

Most clients start a little nervous and end up leaving with the biggest smiles, saying, “I can’t believe I waited so long to do this!”

You’re stronger and braver than you think.
